Anti-Stigma Coalition Announces New Board Members 2025

Welcome New Board Members

Christina Pearl and Karl Shallowhorn have been appointed members of The Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition’s Governing Board.

The Coalition’s Join the Conversation awareness campaign promotes mental health awareness and fights the stigma surrounding mental illness, which can be a barrier preventing people from seeking the help and treatment they need.

Christina Pearl is corporate director of communication at Horizon Health Services, where she enhances the organization’s communication strategies and fosters community engagement.

Throughout her tenure at Horizon Health Services, Pearl has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at raising awareness about behavioral health issues and promoting the services offered by the organization. She is an active member of several boards of directors, where she lends her expertise and passion to support various community and non-profit organizations.

Former board chair of the Coalition, Karl Shallowhorn is the special expert for SAMHSA Region II. Shallowhorn has worked in the field of behavioral health for more than 21 years. He has a M.S. in student personnel administration from SUNY Buffalo State and is a New York State-Credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselor.

Shallowhorn is the chair of the board for the Mental Health Association in New York State and has authored two books, Working on Wellness: A Practical Guide to Mental Health, and Leadership Through the Lens of the 12 Steps. He is the host of Mindful Music which is heard on 88.7 WBFO-FM, Buffalo, New York’s NPR station.
