“

Many of our Nurses report they don't know where or how to start looking for treatment providers and resources. I often get referred a nurse who has had an acute consequence happen as a result of SUD, and I need to recommend treatment provider(s), therapist, resources for family and general supports for a life of recovery. Working together, the potential to move towards our shared values and goals grows exponentially.

About the Organization

SPAN is not looking to replace any sort of treatment but rather work as a supplement for nurses with Substance Use Disorder. Statewide Peer Assistance for Nurses is a FREE, confidential, nonpunitive support for all nurses (LPNs, RNs, NPs, CRNAs, CNM, DNP, ect) and nursing students, regardless of employment status or licensure status. We offer closed peer support groups, individual support, navigation through licensure/disciplinary actions, and much more. Whether SUD is an acute issue or in sustained remission, we are here to support nurses.

Our philosophy is that every nurse deserves access to treatment, help in preserving his or her license and employment status, and ongoing support throughout the recovery process. SPAN’s mission is to be the resource for New York State nurses affected by substance use disorders, while fostering public safety through outreach and education. Funded through a portion of ALL New York State nursing licensure fees, we are Nurses helping Nurses! Modeled off of the Physician’s program CPH, we are a unique and valuable asset to NYS Nurses.
